Energy Harvesting Using a Nonlinear Resonator with Asymmetric Potential Wells

This paper presents the results of numerical simulations a nonlinear bistable system for harvesting energy from ambient vibrating mechanical sources. Detailed model tests were carried out on an inertial consisting piezoelectric beam with additional springs attached. The mathematical was derived using bond graph approach. Depending spring selection, shape potential wells modified including removal wells’ degeneration. Consequently, broken mirror symmetry between led to solutions corresponding voltage responses. probability occurrence different high voltage/large orbit changes in investigated. In particular, periodicity respect harmonic excitation period studied and compared terms output. showed that large period-6 subharmonic solution could be stabilized while some higher disappeared increasing asymmetry wells. Changes frequency ranges also observed chaotic solutions.
